After reading this blog, you will be able to draw and navigate around the different planes and axis in 3Ds Max Pivot Points much more easily.
Changing an Objects Pivot Point
The first thing I would like to touch on is how the centre point changes the rotation of your object and what axis it’s rotated in. If we go to Hierarchy, we can press the button ‘Affect Pivot Only’.
Now if we move the rotation point to the bottom corner of this object. We can press ‘Affect Pivot Only’ again to disable the tool as we have successfully moved the rotation point.
If we rotate the object now, it will rotate on that point. We can spin it around the rotation point we have set.
If we want to change the rotation point back to how it was before, we go to ‘Hierarchy’ > ‘Affect Pivot Only’ > ‘Centre to Object’ and now the rotation point is back to the centre. So if you go ahead and try to rotate the object, it will rotate from the middle of the object.
This is helpful when changing the point of where your object is rotated from. This all helps when you’re modelling and rotating different shapes.
